Thomas Brennan Field at Lindenhurst Village Park
The Lindenhurst Historical Society, in tribute to the Villages’ 100th Anniversary celebration, will sponsor an historic reenactment of the famous 1930 exhibition game played in Lindenhurst between Addie Klein’s Lindenhurst Nine, an amateur baseball club, and the Yankee’s Babe Ruth along with other professional players including Lou Gehrig.
Long storied as the day Babe Ruth came to Lindenhurst, the barnstorming Yankees and the locals played in front of a larger crowd assembled at the Meridale Baseball Park. Much to the chagrin of local residents, the Lindenhurst Nine lost 10-4.
For the commemorative game, we will reenact the game from that long ago Saturday afternoon. The day’s events will be played at the Lindenhurst ball field just south of Feller’s Pond and adjacent to the Lindenhurst Remembers September 11th Memorial Garden.
